We are very excited to report that all 25 places on the 25 x £100 challenge have now been taken! With matching funding and Gift Aid, the challenge will bring in some £6,000 towards realizing the redesigned shop and café. It attracted a number of new contributors to the shop as well as showcasing some innovative ways of fundraising. Many congratulations and thanks to all of you who took part, and to Penelope Leather for taking the lead in organizing it.
With the charitable donation reported last month and continuing Chastleton Teas, we expect to have narrowed the gap between what we need and what we have by a further £20,000 by the end of the summer. This will bring the total raised since the start of the project to around £120,000, all but £7000 of it by local fundraising and without any support from public funds—quite an achievement for our village and its neighbours!
Another, very encouraging, recent development is that two village residents have come forward with pledges of significant fresh contributions if others will join them in a renewed effort to bring forward the moment when we can begin construction. Such support could also help unlock two provisional grant indications that are dependent on having other funding in place and being ready to start building.
The decision on our re-application to the Big Potential Programme (for technical and professional support, including preparing a second share offer) was postponed from July to August. We expect to hear very soon if it has been approved. WATCH THIS SPACE
In the meantime there are practical things to take care of, so there will be a working party to maintain the site one weekend morning in the next few weeks.
LOOK OUT FOR a fundraising event in October or November.
